Southwest Florida Weekly Fishing Report

Weather: Fort Myers saw highs of 85–90°F and morning lows of 68–76°F. By the weekend,mornings finally felt like fall.

Water temp: 80–85°F..

Tides: Afternoon highs.

Wind: Generally light last week, with day-to-day changes.

Water Clarity: Varied by area, mostly good.

Last week gave us the first mornings that really felt like fall. Fort Myers dropped from a 76°Fmorning on Thursday to 68°F by Sunday, while afternoon highs eased into the mid 80s. Thefishing gave us just as much reason to be excited about the season ahead.

Redfish, snook, and tarpon were all plentiful across a wide stretch of Southwest Florida, fromCharlotte Harbor through Pine Island Sound and Naples to Chokoloskee. Water clarity,temperature, and tide timing changed from one area to the next, but there were opportunities forall three species throughout the region.

Around Fort Myers this week, expect highs in the upper 80s, mornings in the 70s, east winds,and increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms. The comfortable start to the day shouldcontinue, even with warmer and wetter afternoons in the forecast.

We are also moving away from Saturday’s full moon. Tidal movement should remain useful, butthe pattern will change as the week goes on. Current can help concentrate feeding fish, look forthe places where the tide, light, wind, and water clarity come together.

The number of redfish, snook, and tarpon around last week is a great sign for fall. This is thetime to get out there!

Before changing flies, change your angle. A fish that ignored one presentation may eat thesame fly when it comes across its path naturally.
