This week’s fishing report show that morning low tides and hot weather have created productive fishing conditions across Southwest Florida. The cooler morning temperatures have kept fish active, while the lower water has made it easier to identify productive areas. Conditions vary throughout the region, but the heat continues to play an important role in when and where fish are feeding.

Redfish have been holding shallow and can be found working shorelines, flats, and areas with concentrations of bait. Snook are around as well, particularly near mangrove edges, creek mouths, and other areas where current brings bait past good cover. Good numbers of snook have also been reported along the beaches. Dark flies such as black-and-purple patterns have provided a strong profile in lower light and stained water.

Tarpon and juvenile tarpon are also around. Afternoon high tides are allowing fish to move into flooded shorelines and backcountry areas, while changing light and water conditions require anglers to adjust their approach throughout the day. Finding active bait and moving water remains one of the most reliable ways to locate fish this week.

Try a slower retrieve, when the water is hot the fish can be less willing to sprint after a fly.
